DOWNVIEWS PARK
Ideas for public places
Parc Downsview Park, winning proposal for an international competition for a major urban park in the City of Toronto. As part of the cultural consultant team to Rem Koolhaas, Bruce Mau and David Oleson and Inside/Outside Landscape Architects, ARTATWORK and Noel Harding Studio developed a number of approaches to help establish an vital park on this 320 acre former Armed Forces base. David Acheson, Noel Harding, Ian Lasarus and Dyan Marie worked as a team to develop plans for transforming open urban spaces for public use. The group explored the concept of physics as a source of ideas to harness energy for the creation of an engaged, poetic, general-public environment.
David Acheson offered location finders as historical reference points and as inventive signage systems.
Noel Harding created a series of sculptures: part trees and plants, part built forms.
Ian Lazarus modelled monumental landscapes by shifting existing land contours.
Dyan Marie proposed a series of pathways seeded through the sites with activities to exercise the body, calm the mind and engage the spirit. For more information about the walkways click here.

GARDEN OF HOPE: HIGH PARK
ARTATWORK and PMA Landscape Architects are now in the process of developing a large-scale garden within High Park. The Garden of Hope will include sculptures, waterways, fountains, intimate walkways, a shading trellis, a sun filled promenade, long views, and protected retreats. The intention is to create a beautiful space to see into and out from, a sympathetic site for constructing refreshed perspectives. This is a place offered specifically to help reestablish calm, a calm that allows for reflection, a calm that helps to build strength, a calm that is intended to help motivate a healing process.
